Circus, South Extension
Whenever one talks of a circus, I am virtually transported to a huge tent like structure with ringmaster, clowns, acrobats, trained animals, trapeze acts, musicians, jugglers, unicyclists and more. I also get excited about the fair-like food that you usually get outside the circus. Since I have always been enchanted by the circus, you can only imagine my delight at being invited to a circus themed restaurant and bar!
The South ex market has almost been dead in terms of the restaurant/bar scenes.I have barely seen any good restaurants in the area in a long time and the only ones I have seen are shady and dingy. Circus proves to be exactly what South ex needs- good music, great food and a lovely ambience. The restaurant itself is spread over three floors - the third floor with the high ceilings, red and white stars and stripes, trapeze shaped light holders, the funny mirrors and great seating options, the fourth floor has a viewing area to look at and enjoy performances going on at the 3rd floor and also has a open air seating area which will be amazing in the winters and the so called 5th floor which gives you a 360 degree view of the area !
I have always associated Circus food with fried food, junk food and fun food! :P And to my delight, this is exactly how the afternoon began.
The Polenta crusted chicken was served piping hot with a delicious dip. The chicken was well cooked and soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside.
Chicken 65, double cooked chicken tossed in some ginger, cayenne pepper, lime and curry leaves was simply too good!
The cocktail menu seemed to have an interesting mix of the classic cocktails and the Circus special cocktails. So we tried the most funky ones. The first one was Masala Gang - An option of anardana, ram laddu, aampanna, kala khatta or imly served with a shot of vodka. We tried Kala Khatta, Ram Laddu and Aampanna as they are personal childhood favourites. The Vodka elevated the drinks and brought out the core flavours even more!
The next cocktail - Ring of fire- made of Guava juice and Vodka with a hint of coriander, green chilli, chat masala was extremely favourful and slightly spicy. You could taste each element of the drink in every sip.
The next cocktail Pomo Sapphire made of gin, pomegranate juice with a pinch of chat masala was a good mix of sweet and sour. Very similar to the earlier cocktails, the chat masala added a zing to the drink and the juice provided a base flavour to the drink.
The Chicken momos and Prawn momos served next were simple and flavoursome. Soft, steamed delicious - exactly how they should be.
The thin crust Butter chicken pizza was oozing with cheese and butter was not only messy but delicious!
The Chicken red curry served with rice was mild but delish! Succulent pieces of chicken in a lovely curry. Oh yum!
The winner of the afternoon was the Mutton ghee roast and malabar parantha Tiffin meal. Tender, juicy and perfectly cooked pieces of mutton cooked in a luscious gravy served with salad and malabar parantha. I wish I could eat this all day , every day.
Moving on to desserts, the Atta Halwa was cooked to perfection - not too sweet or greasy and cooked perfectly.
The Ultimate Circus Sunday was a gastronomic delight ! A mix of ice cream, chocolate sauce, cherry, chocolate and all things nice.

The Loaded potato skins served next were just too good. Potatoes stuffed with sour cream, chives and baked with cheddar cheese. What more can one want :P

Moving on to the Main course, we started with the Chicken Thai Basil with rice which was minced chicken tossed in a basil sauce served on top of a bed of rice. The curry was slightly spicy but appetizing.
