Junkyard Cafe, Saket
After the success of its outlet in CP, The Junkyard Cafe now has a brand new outlet in Saket. The concept remains the same - making the best from waste. It is located right next to the back side entrance of Select Citywalk, Saket and is easily accessible.
The Junkyard Cafe in Saket is spread over a 13,000 sq feet and also derives its inspiration from an actual junkyard. The outlet has colourful & innovative interiors (all made of junk) , good music and decent service.
The first thing that strikes you as soon as you are seated is the quirky interiors - the sofas made of Car bonnets, a Michael Jackson portrait made entirely of Junk, small doll like figures next to the seating spaces, an aircraft hanging from the ceiling and a lot more. As a person who is weak at design concepts, I can only imagine how much thought and effort may have gone into designing each of the items in the restaurant.
The menu is divided into two parts- one for the calorie conscious and one for the not so calorie conscious. The first section tells you how many calories each dish contains and the second section is just the same as a regular menu. The menu is exhaustive and has enough options for vegetarians and non vegetarians.
The Edison Bulb Cocktails and the Graveyard Cocktails are some of my favourites at Junkyard and that is exactly what we ordered. The Edison bulb cocktail made of White rum, elder flower, vanilla sugar, lime juice and rosemary was served in a glass containing Nitrogen ice and so was smoking when it arrived.
The Graveyard cocktail made of Dark rum, hazelnut, vanilla sugar, lime juice and cola was well balanced. It would have probably been better without the Vanilla sugar.
With the cocktails, we ordered Chicken Malai Tikka and Mustard Fish Tikka, both of which were well prepared and delicious. The chicken however was not tender and was a little chewy but the flavours were right. Even though the flavour of mustard in the Mustard Fish tikka was missing, the tikka without the mustard was delicious.
The Sichuan Chicken Dimsums though not spicy, were juicy, soft and flavourful were served with 4 types of dips.
The main course consisting of Penne pasta and Grilled chicken breast made up for all the disappointments of the evening. The pasta was served in a mildly spiced fresh tomato sauce and had great flavours.
The Grilled chicken breast with red wine jus served with grilled veggies and mashed potatoes was exactly what we needed to end on a high note.
If you are in Saket and do not want to go to the mall for a meal, you can easily head to The Junkyard Cafe for a fun evening.
Happy eating!
