La Vie, Khan Market

Catering to the penchant for the luxury loving food aficionados the city plays host to an über chic dining destination which escapes the bustle of everyday, and introduces its patrons to an oasis of calm in the heart of the city. La Vie, a quaint little restaurant in the heart of Khan Market, with an unflustered charm where time seems to stop still and conversations flow freely. Literally translating to ‘that’s life’, La Vie offers an all-day casual and chic ambience - a rare sight these days in a culinary landscape otherwise littered with fine dining restaurants and loud pubs.

Inspired by the street cafes of Europe, the creative interiors, its friendly atmosphere, coupled with great service, strike the right balance between camaraderie and intimacy .Its feel is contemporary with wooden arches that stretch to the ceiling and a hint of industrial design aesthetics. The décor is tasteful and all at once inviting.

While the chalkboard in the corner reveals the day’s specials, and is a reflection of diverse palates, the highlight is definitely the wood fired pizza oven. With over 20 years of experience in Italy, the subtlety of flavours and techniques of Pizza Chef NARESH VERMA is best witnessed in signature pizzas like Pizza Capricciosa, Pizza Bingo with its topping of lamb bolognese and Pizza Casa, a spicy preparation in garlic, with chicken, baby spinach, cherry tomatoes and jalapeños. For those in a hurry, pick up a slice from the takeaway window at the back!

For the grills, there is the state of the art ‘Robata’ flame grill churning desi favourites like Chicken MethiMalai Tikka, and Fresh River Sole Tikka, as well as western grills like the white chicken breast with jus lie and periperi sauce, all served with fresh bread and salad to ensure a wholesome meal. Grilled on lava stones sourced from active volcanoes, the Robata captures the perfect smoky essence of charcoal infused flavours.

The Mint and cucumber cooler was simple and refreshing.

Cafe Da (Vietnamese Iced Coffee) which is a Saigon classic made of caramelized milk and freshly brewed coffee served on the rocks has now become my new favourite.

The farm fresh salad made of Iceberg lettuce, walnuts, bell peppers, onions, sun dried tomatoes and olives tossed in a light honey mustard dressing was simple and helped freshen our palette.

The salad was followed by Herb grilled Chicken Breast and Meaty Lasagna.
The Herb grilled Chicken Breast and vegetables with rice pilaf and a fiery peri peri sauce was well cooked and seasoned perfectly.

The Meaty Lasagna which is baked lasagna with a cream chicken and lamb bolognese sauce was a gastronomic delight and had the classically seasoned tomato dominated base served at just the right consistency and temperature.

Selections from the heavenly helping of desserts which are a forte of the La Vie tailor made menu are essential to help end the meal on the right not. We ended our wonderful meal with the all so familiar yet delicious Chocolate Truffle.

Whether you are looking for a quick bite or for a laidback, relaxed meal, the intimacy and warmth of the setting is a retreat from the busy marketplace outside. There is a relaxed charm and serenity that one invariably experiences at La Vie, where each visit entices you to come back for more.

Happy eating!
