Tamasha, Kamala Mills, Mumbai

Tamasha usually refers to a grand show, performance, or celebration and Tamasha at Kamala Mills certainly looks and feels like a grand celebration. The first thing that catches your eye as soon as you enter are the edison light bulbs and the mirrors which create a theatrical effect. The restaurant is larger than regular places one usually visits in Mumbai and it also probably has one of the longest bars in the city. The restaurant is well lit and the decor is minimal.

The afternoon began with Tamasha's signature cocktails - Foamintni, French 75, Bull frog, Lambi Nashili Chai and Mona Darling. All of the cocktails were well prepared and were very potent!

Mona darling was a lovely combination of vodka, watermelon juice, basil, coariander and cinnamon and was served by adding some Tamasha! :D

The Foamintni (which was my favourite) was a drink that tasted as good as it looked. It was a very potent mixture of vodka, fresh creamy apple & Elder flower syrup topped with mint foam.

The Lambi nashili chai was basically a Long island iced tea with a twist. The added nasha was due to the Red wine which was added to the drink instead of Coca-cola.

The Lemon Margarita could have been better prepared. It seemed more like an ice gola than a Margarita.

The Bullfrog which was a combination of vodka, rum, gin tequila, blue curacao and redbull was refreshing and full of energy!

Moving on to the food, for starters we tried the Arabic chicken lolly which is chicken drumsticks cooked two ways(baked and then fried) in lovely Arabic spices.
The Malabari smoked prawns with chargrilled prawns served on a creamy malabar glaze with grated coconut and curry leaf dust was an absolute delight. The prawns were cooked to absolute perfection!

The Shish Touk was more of a platter which consisted of french fries, pita bread and chicken which was served with sour cream and a delicious tomato and red chilly chutney. The chicken was succulent and juicy and was prepared really well.

The French 75 which was supposed to have been Sparkling wine with gin was quite a disappointment as the sparkling wine was flat and the sweet & sour did not really go well with the wine.

Moving on to the mains, my absolute favourite was the Bacon and Mushroom risotto. I cannot describe how good it was in words. It was a pure gastronomic delight and I can go back for this a 1000 times.

The Nihari Gosht with Lachcha Parantha was also well cooked but lacked some basic spices.

We ended the meal with the Chocolate Pan wedge. The Dutch truffle pastry was chocolatey, gooey and delicious and the wild berry compote added a zing to it. The pastry was topped with some Pan and rose dust (which i think was powdered pan pasand). All the flavours were present and you could taste each element in each bite.

The bold fusion of flavours and techiques along with the pleasing setting of the restaurant which definitely make Tamasha quite a popular place.
