Plum by Bent Chair, Aerocity
Plum Cafe is a collaboration between Priyank and Natasha. Priyank is one of the top restauranteurs of India with over 30+ establishments all over the country and Natasha Jain is a entrepreneur whose own venture is the quirky home decor and furniture brand Bent Chair.
The first outlet of Plum in Mumbai was set up earlier and has created a niche for itself in the bustling Kamala mills neighborhood and is one of the most popular places there. The newbie in Aerocity is still finding its place but I am pretty damn sure that it is here to stay. The Aerocity restaurant is much larger in size and also has an outdoor seating section and can cater to atleast 3 times the number of people in comparison to the one in Mumbai.
At the restaurant, you can literally buy everything you see- the plate you dine in, the sofa you sit on or the beautiful products you are adoring.
Plum by Bent Chair aims to provide the best of both pan-Asian cuisine and an exclusive range of accessories and exquisite furniture creations under one roof. For Plum, an interesting color palette of deep tones and plum tints have been incorporated to go with the aura of the restaurant. Gold crushes and outlandish accessories have been adorned for an offbeat display. The entire look has been enhanced with a number of exquisite wall accessories, ceiling lights accentuating the Pan-Asian vibe of the Bar.
The menu has been divided into three sections - EAT, INDULGE AND BUY to take you through the concept of the restaurant. EAT contains the exquisite pan asian menu curated for Delhi folks specially by Chef Saurabh. The menu features a range of carefully crafted pan-asian delicacies from the eastern world. They have also gone an extra mile to work on the presentation of the dishes with bent Chair's unique dinnerware to bring you the best of place and enhance your experience. Plum brings you the whiff of deliciousness from the Far East; the appetizing menu has an interesting spread of signature dishes which boast of fresh ingredients.
INDULGE gives you a list of the amazing cocktails and other drinks on the menu and BUY takes you through the list of items in the restaurant. Plum offers you to shop while you eat and take home everything in sight, from the crockery, wall art, to furniture. The restaurant is set against an iconic ambiance that’s welcoming, warm and fills one with absolute wonder. This resonant space transcends beyond the concept of an artsy studio into a more integrated, cozy, creative dimension which makes it a stupendous treat to the eyes, indeed.
We started the afternoon with the Mushroom Bao which was mushroom shaped steamed buns with a filling of braised mushrooms (button mushroom, shimizu mushroom and white fungus), bird eye chilli and burnt garlic flakes. The umami from the mushroom along with the warm steamed buns proved to be a very comforting start to the wonderful meal we were to have at Plum.
We tried two of the special cocktails at Plum - The Blueberry and Elder flower and the Rosemary & Grapefruit spritzer. The fresh fruits and the flavour combinations were fresh and flavourful and were also a depiction of the fresh and lively interiors of the restaurant. The cocktail sizes were large and not miserly as compared to other restaurants with the same price point.
The next cocktail was a potent and very familiar concoction of scotch, sweet vermouth and bitter called Rob Roy.
The Edamame and Truffle dumplings with a filling of edamame, creame pate, truffle infused potato flakes and crunchy carrot and corn were melt in the mouth delicious.
The Spicy Barbecued chicken aos served with garlic flakes were extremely soft and flavourful.
The White Fungus chicken dumplings that we tried next is something I have never experienced before. Instead of the chicken filling being enveloped in a thin outer layer, this dumpling has the juicy chicken filling rolled in some delicious white fungus which gives it an amazing flavour and texture.
The Spicy Tuna Uramaki prepared with fresh spicy tuna, avocado and tobanjan chilli topped with some spicy sauce and sesame was just lovely.
The Salmon truffle Cream Cheese Sushi filled with truffle cheese and avocado and topped with Salmon and caviar was creamy and light and had very clean flavours.
My favourite - Prawn Tempura Uramaki is the perfect mix of flavours and textures with the prawn tempura, avocado, spicy plum mayonnaise topped with tempura caviar, crispy scallions and sesame seeds.
We also tried the Plumazing burgers which is a new concept that Plum is trying out. Going with the Pan asian theme, we tried the avocado spiced Katsu chicken burger with asian slaw, spicy mayo and pumpkin fries. The burger was delicious, juicy and filled with bold flavours. The slightly sweet Pumkin fries proved to be a great side to a spicy and flavourful burger. To emphasise - the size of the burger is very big and I would suggest that you share it with a friend as you will definitely not be able to finish it by yourself.
The last time I visited Plum, I missed trying their famous Nutella sushi and so I had to try it this time. The Nutella Banan Uramaki is a decadent sushi roll made of banana wrapped in Nutella and flavoured rice served with a dollop of Nutella on the top with toasted sesame seeds. This is pure love. <3
Happy eating!
