Impromptu, Gurgaon

Impromptu is located within the Vatika Towers complex on Golf Course Road. It is not a part of the Vatika Building as such but it located right in front of the building and is a separate entity.

The green surroundings and the absence of noise will automatically calm your nerves. The setting of the restaurant itself takes you away from the bustling madness of the city.

Impromptu looks much better than the earlier Chinese restaurant that used to exist. The owners have ripped apart the interiors and added a whole new look They have used the essence of the existing structure and designed it in a way that it not only brings out the best of it but also adds a certain charm to the place.

We visited Impromptu on a weekday in the evening. Even though it was a working weekday, the restaurant was filled with customers thereby indicating the popularity of the restaurant. The restaurant has a fresco inspired outdoor seating area and an equally aesthetic setting in the air conditioned area. The place will look even more beautiful in the coming winter evenings.

Since it was raining, we decided to sit indoors. We were greeted by extremely courteous staff who never left the side of our table throughout the entire evening and made sure that they took care of us in every possible way.

You have two options for dinner/lunch at the restaurant- the buffet or the A la carte .
The buffet consists of a salad counter, a live counter and a dessert counter. East directions are printed right above the stations indicating how to place an order. You can make your own salad as per your preferences. Once you are done with the salads, you can choose the ingredients and the sauce of the main dish and hand it over to the chef. The chef will cook the dish as per your preferences and serve it to you. You can then head for desserts.

Impromptu boasts of a Global cuisine and the The A la carte menu will have you confused withw hat to order.
We asked them to serve what they thought was the best and we ended up trying almost everything on the menu!

Gautam started with the "make your own salad" from the buffet. He put together all his favourite ingredients and happily topped it with oodles of salad dressing and was munching away to glory within minutes.

I started with the Fish and crumbs. The fish was soft and juicy covered with crispy coating of crumbs. Combined with the tartar sauce, it was a great start to the food that was to follow. Before i realised that I was to take pictures, I had already gobbled half of the starter.

The next dish that Gautam tried was the Pesto Paneer Tikka. The twist in the paneer tikka was that it was not the paneer marinated in the tandoori ingredients, but was actually marinated in pesto sauce and cooked in the Tandoor thereafter. With each bite , you could taste the basil and the garlic. Such an innovative twist to the traditional Indian starter.

Next in line were the Shitake rolls-Crunchy, filled with mushrooms and vegetables and served with mayo. Again, Gautam had gobbled half of the starter by the time he realised that he had to take pictures.

The next in line for me were the Grilled Chipolatas. If love were a starter, this would definitely be the one. *sigh*. It was barbequed chipolatas wrapped in Bacon served on a bed of slow grilled onions. I could eat this dish every single day for the rest of my life. The juicy Chipolatas with the slightly crispy bacon on a bed of sweet grilled onions. Oh my!

Moving on, we had the option of trying either the pizzas or the burgers. We opted for the pizza- Veggie crunch pizza for Gautam and Chicken Tikka pizza for me. They were served piping hot on a thin, crispy and light crust and was topped with oodles of cheese and goodies.
The Veggie crunch had green olives, black olives, bell peppers and sundried tomatoes topped with arugula salad and The chicken tikka pizza was topped with onion, coriander and chicken tikka.

Finally for the main course(even though we were already stuffed and could burst with all the food inside) we were served the Chicken Red Thai curry and the Veg Green Thai Curry with aromatic jasmine rice. Both the curries were scrumptious and creamy.

For dessert, we gorged on gooey, chocolaty and creamy Flourless Chocolate Cake with chocolate sauce and Vanilla ice cream- also called Mad About Chocolate as per the menu.

We also tried the Avatar - fresh fruit trfle with Rabri, toasted nuts and Balushahi crumble. But the Mad About Chocolate was a clear winner.

We could not have asked for a better end to the meal.

You must visit impromptu the next time you want to spend a relaxed evening with your friends or if you want to go out on a romantic date and we can guarantee that you will not be disappointed.
