Yauatcha, Vasant Kunj
The love of food and shopping (namely Forever 21) took a fellow blogger and me to Yauatcha on a busy Saturday afternoon. Having heard so much about the restaurant and its food had me super excited.
Yauatcha is a Michelin-starred dim sum teahouse from London and is present across India – Mumbai, Bengaluru, Delhi and Kolkata. The modern Cantonese restaurant aims to be an affordable luxury brand and ensures that the guests have a wonderful experience. The restaurant has a semi open kitchen on one side, a huge bar in the middle and seating areas on 2 sides of the bar.
Yauatcha has recently added new vegetarian offerings to its a la carte menu keeping in view the ongoing Jain festival and also the upcoming Navratras of the festive season. You can choose from a wide array of delicacies from an extensive variety featuring soup, dim sums, stir fries and an unusual addition- Vegetarian Chicken!
We obviously couldn't wait to try out the new additions and so started with the Vegetable Crystal dumplings and the Carrot and Pak Choi dumplings.
The Vegetable crystal dumplings were juicy and had a slight crunch because of the vegetables loaded in each dumpling.
Moving on (and feeling slightly guilty for loving the vegetarian dimsums) we tried the Stir fry vegetarian chicken in Sanpei sauce. On enquiring, we were told that Vegetarian chicken is mainly Soya combined with a few other ingredients, which results in a product that has a texture and taste that is somewhat like Chicken.
We dug into the Vegetarian chicken as soon as it arrived. The soya tossed in Sanpei sauce was slightly sweet, juicy and tangy and the texture was similar to that of fried chicken balls. For a person who isn't told that the dish is vegetarian, the dish can definitely pass on as being non vegetarian.
We finally gave in to our craving for non veg and ordered the Egg fried rice and Prawns.
The egg fried rice was soft and well seasoned and the prawns just made it better. The prawns were cooked well and the pineapple in the gravy added some sweetness to the gravy and the prawns. The crunch from the onions added some extra texture to the dish.
Completely stuffed , we ordered the Raspberry Delice for dessert. The dessert was a visual and a gastronomic delight! The raspberry and dark chocolate mousse was served on a disc of hazelnut brownie in a light rose shaped raspberry casing and was served with raspberry ripple ice cream.
For anyone who wants to try out more of their special veg menu, you are definitely in for a treat. You must try the shredded diakon puff, stir fried french beans, shitake mushrooms, Toban fried rice and the veg pinenut dumplings .
Try out the special veg menu curated by Yauatcha the next time you want to gorge on sumptuous vegetarian food during the festive season.

The carrot and Pak Choi dumplings in comparison to the Vegetable crystal dumplings were slightly sweet and equally juicy and paired with the dips, they tasted even better!
For a meat loving non vegetarian, the fact that vegetarian dimsums could be so delicious was a pleasant surprise.
