We visited Thailand for a holiday recently and were able to get through the Visa process easily. However, when we were looking for details of which documents are required for the Visa and what the fees are, we received different information from different websites (most of which were not updated) and as a result, we took too many documents for a process that requires very few in reality.

The standard documents that need to be carried by each passenger are listed below :

1. Passport with validity not less than 6 months
2. Visa Fee - 1000 Thai Baht for regular Visa or 1200 Thai Baht for Express Visa (which is basically the same visa but a smaller line) (Thai currency only)
3. Visa Application form which is available at the airport for free
4. One Photograph- 4 x 6 cm headshot photo taken no longer than 6 months ago from the date of travel.
5. Copy of your return Flight ticket. Open tickets do not qualify. Travelling overland out of Thailand by train, bus, etc to another country Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia (including en route to Singapore), Myanmar, etc is not accepted as proof of exiting Thailand. Aim to enter Thailand for tourism for the period not exceeding 15 days.
6. Copy of your confirmed Hotel booking
7. Proof of sufficient funds - 10,000 Thai Baht per person or 20,000 Thai Baht per family.

Once you are at the counter for the Visa, the person at the counter usually asks for the Passport, the filled in Visa form with the photograph,  Visa Fee and the Copy of your return flight ticket and the confirmed Hotel booking. They usually do not ask for proof of sufficient funds but sometimes do.
