Yum Yum Cha, Cyber Hub
"Little bundles of joy and big bowls of happiness" is the perfect description of the food at Yum Yum Cha, Cyber Hub. This Pan Asian restaurant has impressed us and has surpassed all expectations we had from it.
The name of the restaurant is derived from the Chinese tradition of "Yum Cha" that is drinking tea and eating dimsums. The restaurant has used this simple concept and has built an entire menu around it.
We visited Yum Yum Cha on a weekday and were surprised to see the place totally packed! However, the crowd was being managed very well by the courteous staff and we were seated in no time. The origami themed restaurant has vibrant and colourful interiors and is very neatly done up. The origami symbolizes different parts of their menu like Fish, chicken, vegetables etc and the kitchen is open for the customers to peek into. Even the napkins are adorned with pretty motifs.
The menu itself is quite extensive but the pictorial representation and the clear description of each dish explains exactly what you are going to taste in simple terms.
Gaurav, our host, looked after us extremely well and has us going on the starters in no time.
While you are dining at Yum Yum Cha, you should know that "Spicy" does not necessarily mean extremely spicy but means moderate spicy.
The Philly wontons were crunchy on the outside filled with a lovely cream cheese filling and was served with a moderately spicy sauce. We just could not stop devouring this little pockets of heaven.
Moving on to the dimsums, I tried the Cantonese veg dimsums and the Spicy Asparagus dimsums. The Cantonese veg dimsums were filled with delicious combination of beans, water chestnut, baby corn and carrot and the Spicy Asparagus were stuffed with the not so spicy asparagus, chillies, and spicy satay sauce. The dimsums had a thin outer layer and the flavours were just perfect!
Ambika in the meanwhile tried the Prawn and Chive dimsums and the chicken and Chilly oil dimsums.
The prawn and chive dimsums stuffed with prawn, chive, chilly and celery was simply delicious.
The Chicken and Chilly Oil dimsums again were just fantastic. You could hear Ambika ooh-ing and aaah-ing with each bite.
While we were enjoying every bite of the heavenly dimsums, the watermelon and mint cooler and the thai orange and kafir lime cooler added a load of freshness and zest to the tastebuds.
Moving on to the Sushi, Ambika tried the Alaska (crab, tempura flakes, ponzu, tobiko, mayo) and the Hanna (salmon, spicy tuna, cucumber, avocado). With the huge smile on her face, one could easily make out how happy she was. The sushi was well prepared with fresh and good quality ingredients and you could taste each ingredient with every bite. To top it all, each piece of Sushi looked like it had been prepared and decorated individually. I personally have not seen so much effort being put into every piece.
The vegetarian sushi that we tried - Ike bana (tofu, cucumber, red pepper, lettuce) and Asparagus tempura (Asparagus tempura, chillies, mayo) was equally mind blowingly delicious.
The mushroom and avocado salad served next was scrumptious. Ambika and I are not great fans of avocado and so were a little apprehensive of trying out this salad. But since we had heard so much about it, we just had to try. The salad was served in the avocado skin and was sprinkled with bits of rock salt. One bite of the salad has us going crazy. We did not expect an avocado salad to be so good! The mushroom was soft, the avocado added some texture, the lemon added a bit of acidity and the rock salt with the dressing just put the whole salad together.
Moving on to the mains, I tried the Veg green curry and rice while Ambika tried the Japanese Peking Duck pizza. The pizza was served on a wafer thin base topped with duck, hoisin, coriander, onion and bits of capsicum. While the duck was just perfectly prepared, the veggies added a crunch and a freshness to the loaded pizza.
The Green curry was flavoursome and just fantastic. Simple, clean flavours proved as just the best main course ever.
The meal ended on yet another high with the Mango and Rocky road mochi ice cream which just blew our minds.
Sweet and lovely ice cream encased in a jelly. What more could we have asked for.
The meal at Yum Yum Cha is something we will not forget in the months to come. I am sure we will visit a few more times. Our relationship with Yum Yum Cha has just begun and we just cannot seem to have enough. The food already has us wanting more.
