Cress Courtyard, Golf Course Road, Gurgaon

Winter is finally here and has brought with it the time for tandoori dishes, barbeque and romantic evenings. You can now easily bask in the sun outdoors and enjoy a meal. Winter evenings give us a chance to experience and enjoy the charm of outdoor seating and also give us a chance to spend some time breathing in the fresh air as opposed to the smoky air of pubs.

Who would have thought that there exists a restaurant with open air seating in a beautiful garden right in the heart of the upcoming and bustling Golf Course Road,Gurgaon. Cress Courtyard is exactly what you would enjoy any winter day or evening. At the entrance is a nursery of sorts so you may be confused as to whether you are entering a restaurant or not. However, as soon as you walk ahead, you will be welcomed by a peaceful and tranquil space which serves delicious food in a delightful ambience. The music is perfect for the setting and the decor is minimalistic.

For those of you who do not prefer sitting outdoors, there are small cabins where you can easily enjoy your time indoors.

The menu is quite elaborate and offers Asian, Indian and Mediterranean cuisines. The warm and personalized hospitality really impressed us at Cress Courtyard. The chefs use the freshest and best quality ingredients in their preparations.

The evening began with Ginger Salt Cooler and a Virgin Mojito. The Virgin Mojito was tasty and well made but the Ginger Salt cooler was definitely the winner. The subtle taste of ginger combined with salt and soda resulted in a delicious drink. It was so good that we ordered two!

The Chipotle Chicken Tikka and Veg Spring roll was what we tried next. The succulent and tender Chicken tikka topped with some Chipotle sauce was flavourful, tangy and tasty. the taste was so different from the usual chicken tikka but was so good that you just wanted more ad more. The crunchy spring rolls stuffed with veggies were very enjoyable.

The Burmese dimsums and Corn tempura wasabi were next in line. The Burmese dimsums were exquisite and tasted heavenly. The peanut sauce served along with the dimsums was the perfect accompaniment.

The corn tempura wasabi was made of marinated crispy fried corn kernels tossed in wasabi salt and pepper. Though we could barely taste the wasabi, the overall dish was extremely delicious and flavourful.

Absolutely stuffed and almost bursting at the seams, we tried the last two dishes of the evening- Dahi ke kebab and Cajun spiced kurkure Khumb(Cajun spiced crispy mushroom).
The Dahi ke kebab were soft but the flavour of the spices was extremely over powering. So much so that it left a weird and unpleasant after taste.

The Cajun spiced Kurkure Khumb had the right amount of spice, was crunchy from the outside, the mushroom was well cooked but the filling was a disappointment.

We were extremely full and could not have eaten any more food. The quantities served in each dish were more than enough for 2 people. After a great start of the lovely spring rolls and chipotle chicken tikka, we were sad that the evening ended on a low note.

The best part about Cress Courtyard is that it takes you away from the hustle and bustle of Gurgaon and provides an experience that is truly calming. The service is quick and the staff really looks after you very well. You can also visit Cress for a relaxed and romantic dinner date with your better half.
