Daawat - e - Kashmir, Gurgaon

Kashmiri cuisine can be traced back several years to the time when India was invaded by Tumur which lead to the migration of merchants, craftsmen and cooks to the Kashmir valley.
The descendants of these cooks are now regarded as the masters of Kashmiri cuisine which is rich with the flavours of spices such as cardamom, cloves, saffron and cinnamon.
Kashmiri food, as our kashmiri friends used to tell us, is so delicious that the aroma of the food makes you feel hungry even if your stomach is full.

The liberal use of spices adds warmth and comfort to the dishes. The fragrance of spices like saffron and saunf also sets the dishes apart. We have never had the chance to try Kashmiri food and so when we saw a place close by, serving the same, we thought we'd give it a shot.

The food was delivered promptly and in neatly packed boxes.

We began the meal with the Murg lemon leaf tikka. The chicken was delicious, perfectly cooked, tender and the subtle flavour of lemon added a great zing.

The Papdi Paneer that we tried next was very different from usual Paneer starters. Covered in spicy and crunchy Papad, the paneer was soft and creamy. The combination spicy papad and the creamy paneer surprisingly worked very well.

The Malai Soya Chaap was next in line. Soya Chaap is usually our favourite but this one let us down a bit. The Chaap was not the usual melt in the mouth version, but was slightly chewy. The flavours were spot on, but the texture let it down.

Getting to the main course, we tried the chilli coriander Naan which was so tasty on its own that we almost forgot about the rest of the food.

The Kashmiri special mutton kebab was cooked well and spicy! It was not cooked very well which was a major let down but overall it had great flavours.

The Keema kaleji with the Masala Naan was mind blowing. The Kaleji was well cooked and the Masala Naan again was delectable.

The Mutton Yakhni was my favourite. Juicy , well cooked in a yogurt  gravy with dominant flavour of cardamom. It totally lived up to our expectations.

We also tried the Dum Aloo and Paneer Khadi, both of which were flavourful and appetizing.
So go ahead and order some Kashmiri food if you are bored of the usual flavours that you usually ordered and you will be pleased with the options available!
