Chili's , Ambience Mall, Gurgaon

We noticed Chili's from the outside on one of our visits to Ambience Mall, Gurgaon. It seemed very similar to TGIF and even the menu looked almost the same. The only difference - the prices were half of that of TGIF. So we decided, that the next time we go to Ambience, we will try Chili's.

Last week, we went to Ambience to pick up some groceries after work. It was late and we were tired. We did not want to get into a discussion about where to go for dinner and so as soon as we saw Chili's , we walked in.

The first thing that struck us was the dull lighting and the absolute absence of energy. The staff looked bored and the music was really slow. We blamed the weekday for the situation and hoped that the food would be better and would lift our spirits.

We were told that we must try the new salads on the menu and so we ordered the Classic Nachos, The Triple dipper and the Veg Mex Salad bowl.

While we waited for the food to arrive, we heard the staff singing happy birthday for a guy at the table next to ours.

"The food can't be bad if someone has decided to spend the birthday dinner at Chili's" we thought.

The Nachos arrived in 15 minutes. The crispy tortilla chips were replaced by a tortilla roti like Base topped with oodles of cheese, salsa and sour cream with jalapeño on the side as we requested. . From the looks of it, the cheese tipping was made of 2 types of cheese- mozzarella and cheddar. Though the overall taste was alright, the Base which was limp and soggy really did not impress us. We were really disappointed.

The Triple dipper arrived next. It looked crispy and delicious. Ambika was so happy, she barely could contain her excitement. But,one bite into the egg roll and you could see that she just did not like it.

The chicken wings were dry and cold and we're coated in a sauce that was probably made only of tobasco sauce.

The egg rolls which as per description should have been loaded with chicken, beans, cheese, corn , peppers and cheese was mostly hollow on the inside and really did not have much of a filling.

The salad which arrived last had a huge chunk of cottage cheese on the top on a bed of lettuce , beans, vegetables and rice. The presentation was good and looked appetising.  Even though we had asked for the salad to be non spicy, it was filled with Jalapenos . The cottage cheese was extremely dry and hard and the lettuce was stale.

Weirdly, all of the items served had a sort of pasty and greasy after taste which was not pleasant at all.

The server cheerfully asked us if we would like some dessert. We passed the offer as we could not really bear the disappointment of a failed dessert.

Unhappy and disappointed we paid the bill and left. Definitely not going back again.
