Independence Day Special at the MoMo Cafe, Courtyard by Marriott, Gurgaon
To celebrate India's 69th Independence day on 15th August , 2015, we decided to treat ourselves to a lavish North Indian buffet specially created for the occasion by the chefs at MoMo cafe, Courtyard by Marriott, Gurgaon.
The day started with bright and sunny weather perfect for hoisting the National Flag. By lunch, the weather took a U-turn and became dark and gloomy with a heavy downpour that lasted the rest of the day.
But the heavy rains and water logging could not wreck our lunch plans. Not even the water logged roads could dampen our independent spirit and we found our way to Courtyard by Marriott wading through the water (in the car obviously) after a 45 minute drive.
We were greeted by Ritika and the aroma of delicious food at MoMo cafe after which we were directed toward the buffet. The whole restaurant was decorated with adaptations of and the Indian flag itself. You could see that a lot of effort was put into the decoration and cooking of the food as each of the dishes were spread out in a way that it depicted the National Flag in the order of the colours - Saffron, White and Green . Even the mocktails served had the same colour combination!
The restaurant is usually open for brunch every Sunday an serves a variety of multi cuisine options . However, the restaurant was open for brunch on both Saturday and Sunday this weekend to celebrate the Independence Day weekend. The buffet menu, as explained by the Chef, was designed in a way that would showcase the Indian states and their specialities. The menu for Saturday was designed to showcase special dishes from Delhi NCR and surrounding areas and the one for Sunday would include a wider range of options from all the states in the country. The menu also consisted of some continental and Chinese dishes because the management did not want to limit the options for their International guests.
The Saturday brunch included a wide range of salads some of which were -Crispy bacon and egg salad, Sauteed french beans with cherry tomato salad, Paneer tikka salad and a side of Dahi Bhalla!
Salad spread
Bacon and egg salad
Paneer tikka salad
French bean and tomato salad
Soup options were the usual Tamatar Dhaniya ka shorba and chicken sweet corn soup.
The Tandoori Bharwan aloo starter was our favourite. Filled with tangy paneer, we are drooling at the mere thought of it.The non veg starter- murg chengezi was however a little dry .
In line with the celebrations and the menu designed, there was a separate Chole Bhature counter where you could choose the spices and customize the Chole to go with the Tricolour Bhature. I tried mine with a little extra lemon, coriander and spices and I must say, they tasted so good that I could eat the Chole all day.
Moving on to the main course, it is usually difficult to find Gosht cooked well even in 5 star restaurants, but the perfectly cooked Gosht beliram combined with the Keema biryani sure made Ambika happy.

Keema Biryani
For me, the vegetarian, the Matar mushroom, daal makhani, greek style potatoes, herbed polenta steak with chunky tomato sauce were the winners!
Matar mushroom
To top it all, I was extremely pleased with the range of Indian desserts they had on the buffet - creamy rabri served with crisp and juicy jalebi along with milk cake, ,moong dal halwa and ghewar just made my day (and night :P) .
Moong dal halwa

Ambika on the other hand loved the Opera slice and the creamy profiteroles . (Even the profiteroles were colour coordinated!)

During lunch, Ritika was nice enough to explain to us that MoMo cafe stands for Modern living, Modern dining and that all the outlets of Courtyard by Marriott usually have a multi-cuisine all day dining restaurant named MoMo cafe. She also explained to us that Courtyard by Marriott is a brand of hotels owned by Marriott International and is designed for business travellers primarily but also accommodates families.
We were so stuffed by the end of the buffet that we could barely make it inside the car. The clouds had cleared a little and we made our way home after a wonderful dinner. Unfortunately we couldn't go for the Sunday brunch as we were still recovering from the food coma we were in.
Courtyard by Marriott is located close to Golf course road as well as Cyber Hub and should definitely be on one's your list of "Must eat at" places.
