First Eat , Gurgaon
I have memories of my mother scolding me if I didn't eat anything in the morning before leaving for school, college or work. Even if I wasn't hungry in the morning, she would pester me to eat a parantha, an egg, an apple or at least drink milk. "Eat something at least!" she would say every single day while I was getting ready and rushing to school, college or work.
When I moved out of the house and started staying on my own, I could hear her scolding me in my head every morning and even then I would rush out without eating anything. Each time Mom asked me on the phone if I ate anything in the morning, I would lie and say I did because I did not want her to worry. Unfortunately, any website/portal/ Social Media platform I visited always had atleast one article/post about how Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and this in turn would make me feel guilty for lying to Mom.The lack of breakfast not only made me feel guilty but it also made me feel dull and groggy each morning till I realised that my Mother is always right.
I tried looking for homely and healthy breakfast options and found only aloo paranthas, chole kulche, samosas, kachoris, etc. -None of which were light, healthy, easy to eat while travelling nor hygienic.
Once we moved to Gurgaon, breakfast was only available if you booked in advance or if you were ready to wait till lunch for the delivery guy to make it to your office. No outlets opened before 8 a.m. and so we would skip breakfast again. Not a day went by that I didn't wish that my Mom appear in her Goddess like avatar bearing breakfast.
We heard of First Eat or #PehleKhao through some friends. They had ordered some food from them at work and could be heard ooooh-ing and aaaah-ing over the taste of the food. We just had to try it.
A bunch of MBA grads connected through childhood friendship, love for food and passion for solving every person's breakfast problem started First Eat. They presently deliver 4 items- Poha, Parantha, Upma and Omelette with sautéed veggies.
The best part is that they start service at 7:30 a.m ! This is earlier than most breakfast delivery guys in the area and definitely a plus point for First Eat.
We tried 3 of their dishes- Poha, Omelette and Aloo Parantha. The food was delivered on time by one of the partners itself! He explained to us that they plan to add some more options like more varieties of paranthas, protein rich variants of Poha, boiled eggs and peanut butter sandwiches in the days to come. Yay!
The food was very well packed and you could see that they had put a lot of thought into the packaging and design of the boxes.
The Poha was neatly packed in a box and was accompanied by a small packet of Sev which is ususally mixed with the Poha or added as a topping to add a bit of crunch to the dish. The Poha was simple, light and delicious.
The Omelette was light and fluffy and the sautéed vegetables were well seasoned, soft and crunchy at the same time.
The Aloo parantha was my favourite. The packaging of the parantha was such that you could remove the lid and the base would serve as a plate. The best part was that you could put this plate in the microwave, reheat your paranthas and even wash & reuse it later. The parantha was soft, tasty and delightful! It was delivered with a bowl of curd and mango pickle .
Next was the zero oil egg sandwich. It was filled with egg and veggies and unlike what I predicted earlier, it was very tasty and flavourful.
We finished the meal with the immunity booster juice. The juice was freshly prepared and you could taste each ingredient of the juice - Apple , carrot, beetroot and ginger. Who knew that all these elements combined could taste so good!
The items that we tried were non oily, healthy , simple and homely.
With First Eat delivering in Gurgaon and in CyberCity till 12:30 p.m.and also in the evenings, we will not have to worry about breakfast or evenings snacks anymore. Though the app will remain the primary channel for placing orders, they will also launch a telephone ordering service.
Their professional and courteous service and the wholesome & filling meals will definitely make them a popular choice with the Corporate circles of Gurgaon.
Happy eating!
