Little Buddha Café, Rishikesh

We have been to Rishikesh a number of times before and mostly the trip involved a day of rafting, camping overnight and returning the next day.  Since the camp takes care of your meals and the travel, we never really had to worry and never had to head anywhere for food. This time around, we visited Rishikesh only to spend a weekend relaxing away from the hustle and bustle of the city. One of our friends suggested that we visit Little Buddha Café at Laxman Jhula. We were quite surprised that a café like that existed so close to Laxman Jhula. Turns out that we never went beyond the Temple at Laxman Jhula and so never saw the bylanes filled with small cafes.

The entry to the café is really not what you expect and so we missed it completely and walked past it the first time. After asking a few locals, we finally entered the tree house like café. As soon as you enter the café,it seems like a positive energy hits you and you feel refreshed instantly. We reached the café quite early in the morning at 8:30 and so the café was not very crowded and we managed to get the best seats in the house overlooking the Ganges.

Sitting there with the soft music playing in the background, we could feel a sense of calm and tranquillity. The scenic beauty, the sound of the Ganges flowing, sound of a puja at the river side and the cool wind blowing through the café just  made us realise how far away we live from nature in the city. This is really more of what we should experience in life than hectic schedules, traffic jams, etc. We spent half an hour taking in the beauty of the surroundings before we placed our order.

We ordered a cup of tea, milk with Bournvita and French Toast, Veg Sandwich & Nutella Naan. The food took some time but was worth the wait. We loved the French Toast and the Nutella Naan .

The time we spent at the Café just did not seem enough but we had to leave as we had to travel further to get to our destination. We left the café with a smile on our faces and a rejuvenated mind.

We will definitely come back to the Café next time we are in Rishikesh.
